Can Any Method Change Keno Odds? What the Math Says
No method changes which numbers keno draws. The tool below shows how your choice of spots and bet affects the return and the swings, and tests common myths with numbers.
At $1 the return runs from 42.0% (5 spots) to 55.1% (2 spots). More spots mostly buy a bigger, rarer top prize and a wider swing of results, not a better return.
The spread is how far one play typically lands from its average. A large spread means long runs of small losses broken by rare big prizes.

Myths checked
Hot numbers
13.5% (Lotto Max example)Each draw is independent of earlier draws. In Lotto Max, for example, any number has a 13.5% chance to be a main number in each draw, hot or cold.
Due numbers
A number that has not come up for a long time has the same chance as any other number in the next draw.
Same numbers every time
Playing one set every draw does not build up chance. Each draw is new, and the odds per play stay the same.
More spots
42.0% to 55.1%More spots means bigger top prizes, not a better return. In OLG Daily Keno, 5 spots returns the least.
Bigger bet
Cost and prizes grow together, so the chance of each prize stays the same. Where a prize cap or per-draw prize limit applies, prizes can be reduced.

Questions
Can any method change the odds in keno?
No. The draw is random and every set of numbers is equally likely. Your choices change your cost, the return per dollar and how much results swing, but not which numbers are drawn. The average return stays below the price of a play.
What are the best keno numbers?
There are none. Every number has the same chance in every draw, and every set of the same size has the same odds. Hot, cold or lucky numbers do not change that.
Does the number of spots change the return in keno?
Yes, a little. In OLG Daily Keno the return ranges from 42.0% with 5 spots to 55.1% with 2 spots. Every option returns less than it costs on average.
Do hot and cold numbers work in keno?
No. Each draw is independent. A number drawn often in recent draws has the same chance next time as a number that has not appeared for weeks.
Does a bigger bet change the odds in keno?
No. The chance of each prize is the same at any bet. Prizes grow with the bet, so the return per dollar stays the same, except where a prize cap or per-draw prize limit applies.
