Per line the chances are the same. The lines of a combination overlap, so the ticket wins less often than the same number of random lines, but often on several lines at once. OLG prices Lotto Max combination play at $6.00 a line, the price of a whole play; the rules we have do not say whether each line comes with extra selections.

Combination vs random lines

Combination play

  • Lines share most of their numbers
  • When the draw hits your numbers, several lines can win at once
  • When the draw misses your numbers, all lines miss together
  • Expected value per dollar: the same as random lines

Same money in random lines

  • Lines share few or no numbers
  • Prizes are spread more evenly from draw to draw
  • Fewer draws where many lines win together
  • Expected value per dollar: the same as a combination
